System Preparation

Before you install Lexis® for Microsoft Office®, you need to verify that your current system configuration includes the following components.

[ Microsoft Office ] [ Browser ] [ Operating System ] [ Subscriptions ]

After you verify that all 4 of the above components are in place, go to the Lexis for Microsoft Office Download site to download the latest version of Lexis for Microsoft Office.


Microsoft Office

If you have Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office Click-to-Run 2010, you need to upgrade Microsoft Office to 1 of the following required versions:

  • Microsoft Office 2010 (32-bit version only)
  • Microsoft Office 2007 with Service Pack 2 (SP2)

If you are not sure which version you currently have, open Microsoft Outlook, click Help, and select About. The About window provides the full version number including Service Pack (SP) information. If you use Microsoft Office 2007, make sure this window displays (SP2) after the full version number.

Go to the Microsoft Office update site to find out more, or contact a Microsoft reseller in your area.

Go to the Microsoft Office 2007 (SP2) update site if you want to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 (SP2).

Download and install the Microsoft Hotfix KB976477 for Microsoft Office 2007.

If your version of Microsoft Office 2007 (SP2) includes the Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system, you need to remove the Compatibility Pack.

Browser

Lexis for Microsoft Office requires Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 8 or higher.

To determine which Internet Explorer version you have, open Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Help, and select About.

Go to the Internet Explorer Download Center to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 or higher.

Note:

Lexis for Microsoft Office does not support any other browsers.

Operating System

  • Windows XP
    Requires Service Pack 3, Windows Desktop Search, and any priority updates that Microsoft Windows Updates provides. For instructions on downloading this Windows XP Service Pack, see Microsoft Support Article ID: 322389.

  • Note:

    Windows XP 64-bit is not supported.

  • Windows Vista
    Requires Service Pack 2, Windows Desktop Search, and any priority updates that Microsoft Windows Updates provides. For instructions on downloading this Windows Vista Service Pack, see Microsoft Support Article ID: 935791.

  • Windows 7
    Requires any priority updates that Microsoft Windows Updates provides.

Take the following steps to determine which Service Pack version you have:

  1. Right-click My Computer on your desktop.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Make note of the Service Pack (SP) version.

Note:

If you do not have any of these operating systems, visit www.microsoft.com, or contact a Microsoft reseller in your area to purchase and upgrade to the operating system that best meets your needs.

Subscriptions

Lexis for Microsoft Office also requires that you have the following subscriptions:

  • lexis.com® Subscription - Contact LexisNexis® Sales if you do not already have a subscription to the lexis.com service.


  • Lexis for Microsoft Office Subscription - Contact LexisNexis Sales if you do not have a subscription to Lexis for Microsoft Office.
