Reconciling an Accounts Receivable Imbalance Between the Billing (Fees) Journal and the G/L

An Accounts Receivable imbalance between the Billing (Fees) Journal and the G/L also appears in the Journal/G/L column under the Accounts Receivable section of the G/L Reconciliation Report.

Take the following steps to reconcile differences that appear under the Journal/G/L column:

  1. Rerun the G/L Reconciliation Report and check mark Reread G/L Information to ensure there is still an imbalance on the report.
  2. Find the first date of the imbalance on the G/L Reconciliation Report.
  3. Click G/L and select Statements... to open the Statements window.
  4. Click to check the General Ledger box under the Statement Selection Options and select GL in the Template box.
  5. Click to uncheck the other three Statement Selection Options.
  6. Select the Selected option in the G/L Account Selection box and click Select... to open the List - G/L Accounts window.
  7. Click to check mark the Accounts Receivable G/L control account (1200).
  8. Click OK to return to the Statements window.
  9. Enter the first day of the imbalance in both the Start Date and End Date boxes.
  10. Click to check the Detailed Report box.
  11. Click to check mark Screen in the Output box.
  12. Click OK to generate the General Ledger report for the day of the imbalance.
NOTE: Click Yes if you get the Do you want to re-read G/L information? prompt.
  13. Double-click any entries for the amount of the imbalance and look for G/L allocations on the entry to the G/L 1200.
  14. Change the G/L allocations on the entries to something other than the G/L 1200.
NOTE: You can also enter a G/L Adjustment to offset the misallocated entry if you are not able to change the entry causing the imbalance. Refer to your firm's accountant for information on what G/L allocations to make.
  15. Rerun the G/L Reconciliation Report and check mark Reread G/L Information to ensure there is not an imbalance.
