Changing Report Field and Column Properties
You can change the field and column properties as you customize a report. The Selected Field Properties allows you to change the name, size, location, alignment, and text format of fields and columns.
Take the following steps to change the properties of fields on a customizable report:
- Select the report you want to customize from the Reports menu.
- Click the Common tab.
- Click Change to open the Customizable Report - Layout window that displays the default fields.
- Enter a layout name in the Layout Name field.
NOTE: PCLaw saves your changes using the existing layout name if you do not change the layout name. - Highlight a field or column name you want to change in the Selected box.
- Enter a title for the column heading in the Title field in the Selected Field Properties section.
- Use the green Move arrows in the Selected Field Properties section to move the fields up or down or to move the column left and right on the report.
- Use the green Size arrows to change the column's width.
- Select the row where you want the field to appear from the Row (line) drop-down.
- Select the alignment for the text within the field from the Alignment drop-down.
- Enter the distance (inches) from the left that you want the field to begin in the Start box.
- Enter the length (inches) that you want the field to be in the Len box.
- Enter the distance (inches) from the left that you want the field to end in the End box.
- Select a field format type from the Format drop-down.
- Click to check one or more text effects for the field:
- Bold
- Italic
- Wrap (only available for selected text fields)
- Click Advanced to open the Customizable Report - Advanced window.
NOTE: The Customizable Report - Advanced window contains some of the same fields found in the Selected Field Properties section. When you change a field on the Customizable Report - Advanced window, PCLaw also makes that change in the Selected Field Properties section. - Change or accept the Heading Title.
- Enter the size of the Heading in relation to the report font in the Size box.
- Click to check either of the following text effects for the Heading:
- Bold
- Italic
- Change or accept the properties in the Alignment, Size, and Format boxes.
- Click to check one or more of following text effects for the field:
- Bold
- Italic
- Wrap (only available for selected text fields)
- Under Line
- Strike Through
- Over Line
- Select a font color (colour) from the Color drop-down.
- Click OK to return to the Customizable Report - Layout window.
- Click OK to save and PCLaw prompts you to make your new layout the default template for the report.
- Click Yes to return to the Common tab and make the new layout your default template or click No to return to the Common tab and keep the current default template.
- Select the new template name from the Layout drop-down.
- Click OK to run the report.
