Changing the Sales Tax Rate for All Matters

You need to change the Sales Tax rate in both System Settings and Global Change to change the Sales tax rate for both existing and new matters.

Take the following steps to change the Sales Tax rate for all matters:

  1. Click Options and select System Settings... to open the System Settings window.
  2. Click the Tax tab.
  3. Enter the new Sales Tax rate for fees that you bill to clients in the Rate on Fees box.
  4. Enter a date in the Charge Fees Entered Before box if you need to charge a different rate on fees that you enter before that date.
  5. Enter a rate in the At a Rate of box to apply the rate to fees that you enter before the date in the Charge Fees Entered Before box.
  6. Enter the new Sales Tax rate for disbursements that you bill to clients in the Rate on Disbursements box.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Exit and reopen the program to apply the new settings.
  9. Click File and select Matter and Global Change... to open the Select Matters to View window.
  10. Leave the Client, Resp Lawyer, and Bill Settings Used boxes blank.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click OK on the Choose which field(s) you wish to change for all selected matters and then enter the new value(s) prompt to open the Matters - Global Change window.
  13. Click the Billing tab.
  14. Click to check the Sales on Fees box toward the top right corner of the Matters - Global Change window, and enter the new Sales Tax rate on fees.
  15. Click to check the Sales on Disb box, and enter the new Sales Tax rate on disbursements.
  16. Click OK.
  17. Click Yes on the This option will change the selected field(s) for all matters that you have chosen. Are you sure? prompt.
