Problem Description:
This error occurs when you merge a document in Microsoft Word, because a file in Word's global template file, normal.dot, is corrupt. The TmpDDE.dot file resides in the normal.dot file and is part of the integration for merges.
Suggested Actions:
Word XP
Take the following steps to delete TmpDDE.dot from the normal.dot file:
- Open Word.
- Click Tools on the menu bar and select Macro and Macros to open the Macros window.
- Click Organizer to open the Organizer window.
- Click Macro Project Items.
- Click to highlight the TmpDDE macro.
- Click Delete.
- Click Yes to delete the TmpDDE macro.
- Close Word.
- Run the merge again.

Word 2003
Take the following steps to delete TmpDDE.dot from the normal.dot file:
- Open Word.
- Click Tools on the menu bar and select Macro and Macros to open the Macros window.
- Click Organizer to open the Organizer window.
NOTE: The organizer should default to the Macro Project Items tab. If not, then select it. - Click to highlight Tmpdde.dot in the Normal.dot box.
- Click Delete.
- Click OK.
- Close Word.
- Run the merge again.

Word 2007
Take the following steps to delete TmpDDE.dot from the normal.dot file:
- Open Word.
- Click the View tab.
- Click Macros to open the Macros window.
- Click Organizer to open the Organizer window.
NOTE: The organizer should default to the Macro Project Items tab. If not, then select it. - Click to highlight tmpDDE.dot under the In Normal section.
- Click Delete.
- Click Close to close the Organizer window.
- Click Cancel to close the Macros window.
- Close Word.
- Run the merge again.
