The LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage Version 9 software scales to meet the demands of a stand-alone or a multiple-user environment. A stand-alone, or single-user, installation consists of a single computer that runs the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software and hosts the database. You can also install the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software on a laptop with a remote database that you periodically synchronize to your main computer. A multiple-user installation consists of a server computer that hosts the database, workstation computers that run the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software that connect to the database on the server, and laptops that run the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software with a remote SQL database that you periodically synchronize with the server database.
Server
The LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software uses a Clarian database to store your firm's data. Install LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage on your server if you have multiple users or on your main computer if you have a single user. Select the instructions for the type of installation you want, either Multiple-User or Single-User.

Workstation
In a multiple-user office, install the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage application to workstations. Your workstations connect to the database stored on your server computer. Install the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software and database on your server computer first to create a setup file in your shared data folder. Use this setup file for a quick installation of the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software on your workstations. The setup file in your shared data folder automatically detects the correct product key, the database path, and files folder. If you cannot locate the setup file in your shared files folder, download the setup file from your LexisNexis Product Keys email and connect the workstation to the existing database.

Remote
Download and install a remote database to a laptop that you periodically connect to your office network. Make additions, changes, or deletions to your firm's data while away from the office in your laptop's remote database. Synchronize the changes you made with your office's main database when you return.
