Setting Up the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage Software to Link with the PCLaw® Software
Take the following steps to set up the link with the PCLaw® software:
- Create a backup of your LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage database.
- Create a backup of your PCLaw database.
- Click File on the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage menu bar and select Setup, General, and Program Level to open the Program Level Setup window.
- Click Links.
- Click Billing.
NOTE: If you do not see Billing, you need to Disable Billing Matters. - Click to check the Activate Billing box.
- Select PCLaw from the Select Billing Link drop-down list.
- Click Set Billing Options to open the PCLaw Link Setup window.
NOTE: If you have more than one set of books available for the connection, the software opens a prompt so you can choose the correct set of books for linking. To view the available books, click Change Firm, choose a set of books and click OK. Enter the ID and Password for the books. If you would like to have the program remember the password for the books, click to check the Store Password box and click OK. - Click the Client/Matter Options tab.
- Complete the Client/Matter Options tab.
- Click the Billing Options tab.
- Complete the Billing Options tab.
- Click the Book Set Settings tab.
- Complete the Book Set Settings tab.
- Click PCLaw Matching Wizard and complete the wizard to match PCLaw and LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage codes. You must match at least the following three code types:
- Staff
- Matter
- Billing
- Click OK to close the PCLaw Link Setup window.
- Click OK to close the
window. - Click File on the menu bar and select Exit to close the program.
NOTE: You must restart the program for the setting changes to take effect. - Open the LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage software.
- Click File on the menu bar and select Setup, General, and User Level to open the User Level Setup window.
- Select the user from the Select A User drop-down list that you want to enable the PCLaw software link.
- Click Links.
- Click Billing.
- Click to check the Activate Billing box.
- Click Set Billing Options to open the PCLaw Billing Options window.
- Select Use Program Level Settings.
- Click OK to close the PCLaw Billing Options window.
- Click OK to close the User Level Settings window.
NOTE: Restart the program if prompted. - Repeat steps 20 through 28 for any users that will use LexisNexis Total Practice Advantage billing functions.
